Here in the Yampa Valley we are very lucky. We are lucky that we get to wake up to beautiful scenery everyday including picturesque mountain sides, hills covered with green aspen leaves, bright blue rivers and streams and some of the friendliest people in Colorado. Another thing that I particularly love about the location of Steamboat Springs is our vicinity to lakes and reservoirs. Lake Catamount, Steamboat Lake and Stagecoach Reservoir are all less than 40 minutes from town. It has become a favorite weekend pastime to go boating on the weekends with close friends usually out to Stagecoach Reservoir for long, sun filled days wakeboarding, wake-surfing and tubing. We went this past Saturday and although it was a gorgeous day, the fall wind has officially arrived and the water temperatures (even with a wetsuit) were down right chilly. It looks like boating season might be over for 2008, but I will still be sure to check out the fall leaves change color out at Stagecoach Reservoir. It will be a kaleidoscope of colors not to be missed.
Archives for September 2008
It is here and it is for real. Fall has officially made its way into Steamboat Springs. The mornings are cooler, the sun sets earlier and I can almost feel the leaves starting to change, but the best part is that the sun is still shinning during the day reminding all of us that summer is not completely over yet. This is a great time of year, with so much beauty and so much to do and appreciate. More layers are needed when going outside and shorts will not work probably past this weekend, but it is nice to feel the change in season. This is something very special about the Yampa Valley. Not all places get to feel, observe and celebrate the season like we do here. The experience is beautiful and the colors later this month will be striking. Stay tuned!
In the past couple days I think I can safely say that Fall is slowly making an appearance. The first changes that I have noticed are the chilly temperatures in the morning. I use to be able to wake up, take the dogs out in shorts and a t-shirt but now that has changed to pants and a jacket. The cool temperatures in the morning with the perfect temperatures around 70’s in the day are some of my favorite things about fall. My other favorite things about fall; the smell of fall leaves, caramel apples, adding an extra layer to the wardrobe, fall biking and running, football season and lastly the anticipation of winter!
As far as three day weekends go, this past weekend was full of lots of friends, activities, events and great summer memories. With everything from the Wild West Air Fest going on, to the “Come Sale Away” sidewalk sale, I found myself busy all weekend but with plenty of time to relax. That is what long weekends are for right?
My favorite part of the weekend was seeing all the families at the Wild West Air Fest, recognizing kids from the day before and seeing all the event participants happy to be in Steamboat Springs. My other favorite part is that it is a shorter work week; it’s time to start planning for next weekend. Now that it is September I wonder when the leaves will start to change color? I’ll be sure to keep you posted!
